Students will be participating in hands-on, field-based activities in a nearby salt marsh habitat and at the JC NERR Coastal Center. The first hour and 15 minutes includes a short drive down Great Bay Blvd to a nearby beach. Students will participate in sampling for marine fish, invertebrates, and plankton along with conducting a marsh vegetation transect. If time allows, we will also collect water quality information. Students will record their findings and observations while in the field. The plankton sample will be observed with microscopes back at the Coastal Center along with a wrap up discussion on ecosystem services, food web dynamics and trophic cascades.
